Mixed sauna

Hilton Hotels Sale

January 10th, 2010

If you’re thinking of a weekend away in 2010, and you want to include a sauna, then you should take advantage of the Hilton “January Sale”. January refers to when you order, not when you stay. So you have until 31st January to get 50% off all weekends in the UK and worldwide.

Click here for the Hilton January Sale

Most Hiltons have a sauna – but do check. The quality and dress code varies by country.

In particular, we recommend the Hilton Frankfurt. This has a “Fitness First black label Health & Fitness Club” with two saunas, a steam room, a plunge pool and jacuzzi all in a mixed area where swimwear is not allowed, expected or required. It’s free if you have a Silver or above level with the Hilton loyalty program, otherwise entry is 12 euros.

If you have questions about Hilton hotels, place a comment.

Hostels with Saunas

December 29th, 2009

Real Saunas will also be listing hostel saunas.

A sauna may seem an unusual facility in a no-frills, low-cost accommodation, but it’s communal and cleansing, so it can add a lot to a hostel stay.

This is by no means an exhaustive list of hostels with saunas – your help is appreciated by comment of via the Contribute link.

Sauna 1: Male-only sauna in male changing room.

Hotels that don’t have a sauna:

There are many hotels that lack a sauna. We list here only ones where there may be confusion.

Ramada Manchester Piccadilly

Chain: Ramada Jarvis
Official hotel website
No sauna presently!
This had a Sebastian Coe health club in the basement, however following refurbishment this facility is no longer officially listed – but some sites may still have old information.

Crowne Plaza Manchester City Centre

Chain: Crowne Plaza
This new hotel does not have a sauna. The Crowne Plaza Manchester Airport does, and the Midland Hotel (listed above) was a Crowne Plaza for a period – so confusion may arise.

If you have any more information, please do share it with us in the comments. Or if there’s something you’d like to know, ask away! We’re also very keen to know what sort of format people like for this information. Remember, we intend to list every publicly-accessible sauna in the UK. Ultimately we’ll have everything in a searchable database, but this post lists our first 9 saunas. There are many more to go!

Welcome

October 29th, 2009

Hi.

We have plans. Ambitious plans.

We aim to list every publicly accessible sauna in the UK, along with the information you’d like to know. The rotas, the dress codes, the other facilities. Little things you’d like to know before you go, like is there a water fountain? And on various levels, is it a real sauna?

To clarify early on, we’re not about pick-up-joints or brothels. We’re all about the sweating. Whether it’s a council leisure centre, a fancy hotel or a backstreet gym – if it’s a sauna the general public have access to, we’re on it.

We’ll be wanting you – the general public – to contribute to the data when the database goes live in 2010. Right now, we’re still after your input in the form of feedback on this blog.

So our first question is – what, to you, is a “real sauna”?
